Bella Lucces Dedication To Being Green
At Bella Luccè, we understand the need to walk delicately upon the earth. It’s not just our planet, it’s the future of our grandchildren and it’s been entrusted to us for the time being. Since the company’s inception in 2003, we’ve pursued innovative ways to get “greener” every step of the way. Born from our desire to be a leader in eco-friendly practices, our efforts include:

● Bella Luccè is certified as “Carbon Balanced” by TerraPass after purchasing 79 tons of carbon offset credits in 2008 to neutralize the full extent of our in on-site power consumption, corporate travel, computer server use and employee daily commutes. We commit to remaining carbon balanced by undergoing an annual energy audit and offsetting every drop of energy consumption revealed by said audits.

● Bella Luccè uses only recyclable plastic in our product packaging and we encourage clients to take advantage of recycling facilities in their area. We purposely minimize secondary, outer packaging and use it only when absolutely necessary….body scrubs do not need a second fancy box to sit on a shelf. All that cardboard doesn’t make your skin any softer, it just makes the landfills fuller.

● Product labels are printed on a revolutionary new material made entirely from corn, a renewable resource that decomposes in less than a year. We’re hoping to soon have the option of printing with soy inks and are actively pursuing that possibility.

● We actively source organic and fair trade ingredients whenever possible. When working with particularly vulnerable regions, we mandate Eco-Cert participation and/or FSC approval in order to protect and promote responsible harvesting and processing methods.

● In an effort to reduce the amount of waste generated, we recycle clean shipping boxes and packaging peanuts. All retail shipments are nestled in Geami paper, a 100% biodegradable, unbleached paper substrate.

● Product catalogues are printed on FSC-certified paper stock and recycled paper is used for all inter-office printing. From the paper towels in the Staff Lounge to the toilet paper in our restrooms, it’s all recycled. Furthermore, the company provides numerous water coolers throughout the building to eliminate the need for water bottles and we recycle all aluminum cans generated by our employees while at our facility.

● Bella Luccè is a proud member of the Organic Trade Association, Co-op America and the Green Products Alliance. We stand with these organizations and support their efforts to both legislate for stricter controls on the words “natural” and “organic” in the beauty industry (green washing has gone too far). Additionally, we work cooperatively to promote the ideals of fair trade and social justice within commercial business.

If you’d like to better understand the scope of your personal ecological footprint, then a good place to start is by taking an online quiz to determine your carbon footprint. Based on those results, consider purchasing carbon offset credits to minimize your impact. Ready for the next step? Pay it forward and teach your children to walk softly on the earth. One of my family’s favorite websites is the Environmental Kids Club, where children can play games, download activity books and color pictures as they learn about the delicate world around them. Really ready to get serious? Consider going meat-free a few days per week or abandoning meat consumption all together. A recent UN report found that raising livestock contributes more towards global warming than all the cars in the world combined. Scary, but true. Learn more here.
